On Sunday, February 8, Virginia's House and Senate both released budgets that included funding for dental benefits for pregnant women enrolled in Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS. Since the funding was already included in the Governor's budget, the funding would have to have been removed with specific language or a budget amendment. The House budget includes specific language to keep funding for dental benefits for pregnant women and the Senate budget made no change in this area, effectively keeping the funding as well.
VaOHC staff and board of directors are extremely grateful to legislators, the Governor, the administration and agency staff for their efforts to bring dental benefits to pregnant women enrolled in Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS, and to all of our partners for their ongoing support and advocacy.
The dental benefit will begin on March 1; on this date, providers can begin billing for services and enrolled pregnant women can access care.
