What is Fluoride Varnish?
Fluoride varnish is a concentrated dose of fluoride applied to the tooth's surface with a brush; it's safe and painless, and helps prevent cavities. Research shows that four or more applications of fluoride varnish in early childhood can lower rates of tooth decay. Dental and medical providers can apply fluoride varnish and get reimbursed for this service through Medicaid or private insurance; however, our Virginia Oral Health Report Card found that only 5% of pediatric medical providers are billing Medicaid for fluoride varnish.
Fluoride varnish is a simple, effective tool to ensure all children are set up for a lifetime of great oral health. Learn more through the resources below, or contact us to talk about integrating fluoride varnish into your practice.
