Virginia Oral Health Coalition Seeks Legislative Committee Members

The Virginia Oral Health Coalition’s (VaOHC) mission is to improve overall health by integrating oral health services, education and referrals into all aspects of health care – enabling Virginians of all ages and abilities to achieve optimal oral health.  We work toward this mission through advocacy, provider education and public awareness efforts that are implemented with the help of hundreds of individual and organization partners across the Commonwealth.

VaOHC’s legislative committee members help to shape our policy positions by making recommendations to the VaOHC board of directors about specific legislation.  Committee members use VaOHC’s Guiding Principles, which are based on the Virginia Oral Health Plan, to determine these recommendations.  The recommendations may address whether VaOHC should support, oppose or remain neutral on pieces of legislation or recommend if VaOHC should champion a specific policy initiative.

These recommendations are considerably stronger if they represent the views of a wide array of partners.  To that end, we seek additional legislative committee members who can offer a diverse set of expert opinions to shape our advocacy initiatives and advance VaOHC’s mission.

If you are interested in joining the VaOHC legislative committee, I hope you will review the attached Guiding Principles document and consider submitting an application. Applications are due by Friday, August 1, 2014.

Individuals and/or organizational partners are all welcome to apply.  The committee meets monthly during the year and weekly during the General Assembly session, and holds a legislative lobby day during session.  The majority of the meetings are via conference call.
