Victor McKenzie, Jr. Named CEO of Virginia Health Catalyst
Virginia Health Catalyst (Catalyst)’s Board of Directors is excited to announce that Victor McKenzie, Jr., has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 18, 2025. Ben Barber, who has served as Acting CEO since May, will transition back to his position as Vice President of Policy.
“Victor brings a bold vision and the kind of on-the-ground leadership that will help Catalyst grow its reach and deepen its impact,” said Patrick Finnerty, Board Chair of Catalyst. “We are thrilled to welcome him as CEO and look forward to what we can accomplish together.”

As Executive Director of the Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance (SAARA) of Virginia, he spearheaded statewide efforts that established Virginia’s first recovery high school, secured bipartisan reforms to ease employment barriers for individuals in recovery, and expanded Medicaid while strengthening the behavioral-health workforce.
“Catalyst is a trusted leader in oral and public health—bringing people together through education, advocacy, and partnerships to drive lasting improvements in our health care systems and advance solutions that truly work,” said Victor. “I’m honored to join this team and help shape a healthier future for all Virginians.”
Victor’s leadership marks a new chapter in the organization’s work to support innovative public health solutions and strengthen systems that improve health outcomes for all Virginians.
