2022 Oral Health Report Card
Tracking the Data Behind Virginia's Oral Health Equity Gaps
Published in March 2023, this report card examines nine indicators of oral health across the lifespan, grading Virginia's performance relative to national data and spotlighting the inequities that persist by race and ethnicity, income, geography, disability status, and insurance coverage. The data reveal that while Virginia has made real strides, including expanding Medicaid dental benefits to over one million adults and children in Southwest Virginia, Black and Hispanic residents, uninsured adults, and pregnant people without higher education continue to face the greatest barriers to oral health care. Use it as an evidence base for advocacy, strategic planning, and building the case for investments that close these gaps.
